Jones Guild Inc., a not-for-profit organization based in the South Bronx committed to championing the collection and preservation of work created by Artisans who document the lives, experiences and moods of Black folk throughout the diaspora. Jones Guild focuses on Artisans working in the United States.
We are a members-only club which prides itself on being, “Kind, Nice, and Inclusive.” We welcome applications from people at all points in their art collecting journey. If the last piece of art you hung was an insert poster from a Magazine or a Blow-up from some dope image you saw on Instagram, a piece of “Framed Art” you picked up at HomeGoods, or something you bought at a local street fair or Black Fest then don’t worry we got you. If you boast a collection which includes an Alston, Amos, Basquiat, Bearden, Biggers, Catlett, Crichlow, Crite, Denmark, Feelings, Hale, Hollignsworth, Marshall, Neals, Savage, White, or Woodruff just to name a few, we got you too. Chances are you probably don’t have all of your work catalogued and have a file of receipts and certificates of authenticities stashed somewhere near your will.
The Jones Guild provides education specifically around the nitty gritty of collecting, things like substrates and materials used by Artists, ways to protect your investment through proper display, storage, provenance and preservation. We especially like the new collector who has no idea where to start. I mean it’s a heavy lift to go from spending $59.99 to a canvas at Homes Goods to $10,000 for a small piece at a Gallery.
Although only Members can participate in some components of what we offer, we invite anyone kind enough to fill out our application and provide their email address to become a “Friend of the Guild.”
